Bavarian Publishing Power: Four Projects At The Frankfurt Book Fair
How do you get started with a sustainable publishing concept? What is the social alternative to buying books from Amazon? Why do we need a new device to bring seniors online? And how can publishing projects conquer the Web3? Four Bavarian companies and projects will be showcasing the innovative power of the industry at the XPLR: MEDIA in Bavaria stand at the Frankfurt Book Fair.
enna
The enna tool developed by a Munich start-up enables older people to access digital content and applications. Senior citizens don't have to trawl through search engines and apps, but can access the desired function directly by placing a physical card on the screen. “Call Julia”, ‘watch sports’, ‘start an audio book’ - enna opens up new ways into the world of technology and entertainment.
kadegu
kadegu (Kaufhaus des Guten) is an online bookshop based in Tegernsee, which now sells more than ten million books. The wide range covers all genres and also includes calendars, e-books, school books, audio books and films. kadegu positions itself as a social alternative to the major online retailers and donates a portion of its proceeds to selected aid projects.
Kjona Verlag
The Munich-based publishing house Kjona is characterized by its diverse range of literature. A key pillar of its corporate philosophy is the cultivation of long-term relationships with authors. In its work, the Kjona team not only attaches importance to the content itself, but also pays attention to its responsibility towards the environment. Kjona therefore relies on sustainable and socio-ecological production methods.
Web3-Thinktank
The Web3 Think Tank of MedienNetzwerk Bayern supports Bavarian media companies in getting started with blockchain, NFTs and the like. At the Frankfurt Book Fair, it is presenting the digital and animated graphic novel “Royal Monsters”. What makes the project unique is its marketing via NFT technology - anyone who wants to watch the 13 episodes must have a corresponding NFT in their wallet.

Bavarian Book Prize
The Bavarian Book Prize is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year and is once again honoring outstanding German-language publications in the fields of fiction and non-fiction. The nominees are already known, but the winners will only be announced live by a jury in front of an invited audience on November 7. It is already official who will receive the Bavarian Minister President's Honorary Award this year: The writer Florian Illies can look forward to receiving the award, which particularly recognizes his literary work in the context of German history. The award ceremony will take place on November 7 in the Allerheiligen Hofkirche in the Munich Residence and will be broadcast live on Bayern 2 radio from 20:05. A look at all the nominated works and further information on the book prize will be available at the Frankfurt Book Fair at the XPLR: MEDIA in Bavaria stand.
