A media company without a digital strategy is unthinkable today and AI is reshaping the daily work routine in editorial offices – but that doesn't mean that print media has been written off. Magazine journalism is alive and well and its products are still finding their way into the hands of their fans. Fancy some Bavarian best cases? Then poke your nose into these print magazines from Bavaria:

MADAME / MONSIEUR

"Maison MADAME", published by Beautiful Minds Media, is a Munich-based magazine full of luxury, art and style. It aims to be an inspiration for women with an affinity for luxury and presents design pieces, fashion, dream vacation destinations and high-priced jewelry. The counterpart for the male target group is the print magazine MONSIEUR, which has a similar structure: Watches, fashion and design are the predominant topics. “With MADAME and MONSIEUR, we want to show our readers a beautiful, relaxed, positive world that consciously transports them away from their everyday lives,” says Editor-in-Chief Petra Winter. And the publishing house has been doing this very well for decades: MADAME has been around since 1952.

Slowly Veggie

When it comes to the Bavarian magazine market, one player is not to be missed: Hubert Burda Verlag is one of the largest media companies in the print sector in Germany. It fills the newsstands with many titles from the lifestyle, celebrity and fashion genres. This includes the cooking magazine “Slowly Veggie”, which focuses on vegetarian cuisine. Readers poke their noses into plant-based recipes and topics relating to sustainability, travel and decorating ideas for a green lifestyle.

Pasta!

A gourmet magazine in a small town? For many years, “Pasta!” has shown that such a magazine can work successfully. The Passau city magazine in coffee-table design deals with topics relating to the region's gastronomy. Among other things, you can read restaurant reviews, news such as new openings and seasonal recipes from local chefs. The magazine is published by the two agency owners Gabriel Lloyd Martens and Till Gabriel – and is available free of charge in restaurants, bakeries and delicatessens. The magazine is financed solely by advertising.

Crema

Europe's highest-circulation and therefore largest coffee magazine comes from Munich. “Crema" is well-known and popular among coffee lovers and baristas. The magazine contains tests, product presentations and reports. Editorial articles aim to provide readers with guidance on which coffee machine is suitable for which needs and which roasts are particularly delicious. The magazine is published by Munich-based BT Verlag, which specializes in print magazines with niche topics. Other titles from this company include “Sleep”, which is all about good sleep, “BAD Design” and “Meno”, which is aimed at women going through the menopause.

TOP Magazin Augsburg

Readers of “TOP Magazin” from Augsburg receive a colorful mix of topics with a regional focus. The city magazine publishes texts on fashion and luxury trends, living and lifestyle, health and leisure. However, the local focus is not neglected: news on the economy, gastronomy and culture in the region also find their place in the magazine. The magazine has been an established print product in and around Augsburg for over 40 years.

Apotheken Umschau

There is hardly anyone who doesn't know it: “Apotheken Umschau” is one of the best-known magazines in Germany and was founded in 1956. As a free customer magazine, it is usually available in pharmacies and covers health topics such as prevention, treatment methods and specific diseases. However, little is known about who is behind it: Wort und Bild Verlag is based in Munich and the publishing group is a broad-based traditional company with a view to the future, as Managing Director Andreas Arntzen explains in the XPLR: MEDIA interview. “We are doing everything we can to be the beacon for serious and evidence-based health-related information in Germany.”

The city magazine combines lifestyle, music, restaurant tips and the latest news from the city – in short, everything that appeals to the MUCBOOK team and its readers and has to do with Munich. The design is young and urban, the topics meet a high journalistic standard. The authors come from the worlds of art, culture and city life, and the magazine also works with the German School of Journalism for its online blog. Print copies are available to buy in the online store and in selected stores in the city.

ALPS – Alpine Lebensart

Alpine chic combined with genuine Bavarian tradition – that's what “ALPS” magazine stands for. The magazine belongs to Nuremberg-based Olympia Verlag, the editorial team is based in Munich and deals with topics relating to the Alps. “ALPS" presents hiking routes and mountain huts, shares seasonal and regional recipes and portrays people who live and work in the mountains.
